Just DO IT!

Almost 2 years ago I fell madly in love with fabric and decided I needed to create quilts and other assorted goodies with it.   That lead to my next love affair with quilting blogs.  I could sit for hours reading through my favorite blogs and finding new one’s to love.  I learned so much and found so much inspiration from the blogs that I followed.  What I love most about quilting and the blogosphere is the sense of community.  I immediately knew that I wanted to be a part of it.  I wanted to create my own blog for 2 simple reasons.   I wanted a journal of my projects and all that I learn along the way and I wanted to share my creations and thoughts with this fantastic community of quilters and crafters.  So over the last couple years I have read and researched and soaked in every bloggy thing that I can.  Three months ago I claimed my teeny tiny spot in blog land.  And then I read and researched some more…..and more…..and more.  I was determined that I was going to learn everything there was to know about blogs so that I could do things “the right way”.  And while I was doing all of that research this was happening

So clearly I needed to learn “everything there is to know about blogging” much faster so that I could share all this happiness that I was creating.

Then I read this recent post on one of my favorite blogs Windsor & Main.  Like Kim, I am a pretty serious introvert.  I had been thinking about venturing out to one of the local quilt guilds, but hadn’t yet worked up the courage to do so.  After reading her post I was inspired.  There were 2 local guilds that I wanted to try and dammit I was going to their next meeting NO MATTER WHAT, no excuses!  Well it so happens that the next meetings were the next Friday and Saturday (no time time to back out) .  So last Friday I went to the Thimble and Thread Quilt Guild and Saturday morning I went to the St. Louis Modern Quilt Guild.  And I had a blast at both.  I meet some lovely ladies and I can’t wait to get more involved in both.

I couldn’t help but think about the fact that I had been putting off going to these guild meetings for months now out of some imagined fear, similar to that of a teenager on her first day of high school.  I’m 41 years old and I still worry about what the world thinks of me.  I suppose that may never go away completely, but I’m no longer going to let that control my actions.   And all of that is what lead me to THIS, my first blog post.  I’m never going to learn all there is to know about the blogging world.  I could spend another year researching and still have doubts in my ability.  It’s time to just do it and learn what I need to know as I go.  So if anyone does happen to stumble upon this little journal of mine, consider yourself warned.  There will will be numerous technical mistakes, but I promise to learn from them as I go and try not to repeat them.  That sounds a lot like my quilting method 🙂
